FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device for measuring neutron lifetime has a source of a formed beam of neutrons, a neutron guide, an electromagnet and electron detectors. The electromagnet is in form of a combination of a multi-pole lens and two magnetic coils which are coaxially fitted on the input and output of the lens, having cylindrical vacuum chamber with thin frontal walls and flanges for connection to the neutron guide, inside of which, in the region of the coils, there are two proportional electron counters in form of gas-filled discs with thin walls whose material has minimal neutron-absorption cross-section. The lens is placed coaxially with the neutron beam.
EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring neutron lifetime and simple measurement procedure.
