FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to instrument making and can be used in systems for investigating neutron radioactive decay. To achieve the given result, the proposed method uses stepped variation of a stream of radioactive particles through a control area which is scanned with a decay particle detector. Count rates of decay particles on all stages of the stream are repeatedly measured. The count rates are proportional to the number of initial particles in the visibility zone of the detector with a coefficient equal to the decay constant. If there are k levels of the stream, there are as many levels of the number of particles, which are multiples of the greatest common denominator. A sequence is proposed for searching for the scale for the number of particles, which allows for determining that parametre.
EFFECT: more accurate measurement.
