FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method and device for producing optical fibre by drawing it from workpiece. Proposed method comprises producing optical fibre without coat by melting and deforming workpiece and cooling it down without coating by passing uncoated optical fibre through channel wherein cooling gas circulates. Then protective coat layer is applied by feeding melted polymer on fibre surface. Cooling gas flowing toward lower end of aforesaid channel is stopped by melted polymer used for producing protective coat layer, and gaseous carbon dioxide is fed into said channel to the point located below cooling gas feed point and above that whereat said melted polymer stops cooling gas.
EFFECT: reduced consumption of cooling gas.
