FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: ultra-transparent low-iron glass which is highly oxidised is used in solar cells and the like. The glass contains the following, in wt %: SiO2 67-75, Na2O 10-20, CaO 5-15, total iron content (expressed as Fe2O3) 0.001 - 0.05, FeO <=0.0038, redox potential of the glass <=0.12, antimony oxide from 0 to less than 0.01, cerium oxide from 0 to 0.2, SO3 >=0.31. The glass substrate has visible light transmission coefficient of at least 91%, spectral transmission value a* from -1.0 to +1.0, spectral transmission value b* from 0 to +1.5, value of % TS of at least 90%, and UV radiation transmission coefficient of at least 80%. The glass substrate used in solar cells can be patterned in certain versions of this invention.
EFFECT: high transmission of UV light, overall light transmission.
