FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of highly active aluminium oxide and can be used to make extra strong and fire resistant ceramic articles, composite materials, as a catalyst and a catalyst support and as a modifying additive for polymer materials. The electrochemical method of producing aluminium oxide involves anodic dissolution aluminium metal in a chlorine-containing electrolyte solution, followed by washing and thermal treatment. Anodic dissolution is carried out in a coaxial electrolysis cell with the surface area of the anode at least twice greater than that of the cathode. Concentration of chloride in the electrolyte solution is equal to 0.05-0.8 mol/l and anode current density is equal to 50-300 A/m2.
EFFECT: invention enables to control parametres of the electrochemical process with possibility of obtaining aluminium oxide nanoparticles with size of up to 300 nm.
