METHOD TO DETECT LOCATION OF INSULATION DAMAGE IN POWER TRANSMISSION LINE Russian patent published in 2011 - IPC G01R31/08

FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: independently on value of residual electric strength of insulation, an oscillating circuit is created on power line from phase wire of line and previously charged high-voltage accumulating capacitor. Distance is identified to the point of insulation damage by measured time interval multiple to period of excited oscillating process in line, with available capacitance of high voltage accumulating capacitor, specific inductance and active resistance of loop "phase wire - earth" or by ratio of time intervals of damaged and non-damaged phases with available length of the line.

EFFECT: reduced sensitivity to high-frequency noise, reduced effect of attenuation events and distortion of probing voltage shape at result of distance measurements to point of insulation damage, reduced time and costs for detection of defect insulation of line, including defect insulators with residual electric strength.
