FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electric power engineering and can be used to diagnose the state of insulator sets of overhead power transmission lines and electric traction network. Essence of the invention is as follows: the inventive method for determining the condition of the insulator set consists in measurement of the leakage current value and then comparing with predetermined thresholds and the determination of condition of the insulator set. The leakage current is measured in overhead line insulator sets, the data is compared with specified threshold values in drive circuits of leakage currents. The received information is sent as a signal to the scanning station in real time, which analyzes the information and signals about the state of insulators. If the measured leakage current is greater than the first threshold value of the leakage current, but less than the second threshold leakage current, the mobile scanning station outputs the signal on the insulator being in pre-emergency condition. If the measured leakage current is less than the first threshold leakage current, the mobile scanning station generates a signal of insulator set in working condition. If the measured leakage current is greater than the second threshold leakage current, the mobile scanning station generates a signal of insulator set in emergency or post-emergency condition. The breakdown display device comprises a leakage current measuring device; shaper of the first threshold leakage current; shaper of the second threshold leakage current; comparison element in the breakdown display device and/or in the scanning station; memory element (time relay); several radio transmitters; radio receiving device; radio transceiving device.

EFFECT: invention allows to decrease the number of failures of overhead power lines as a result of insulation damage and reduce time for search of damaged insulator set.
