FIELD: food industry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to technology to produce protein product from feather and down raw materials and may be used in livestock sector to manufacture fodder additives for farm animals and poultry. Method to produce fodder additive from feather and down raw materials includes heating and grinding of initial raw materials, its sterilisation, hydrolysis and drying. Used non-ground raw materials with initial moisture of 30-75% are continuously fed into channel of mixer-grinder, where they are compacted 8-10 times and heated at the pressure of 0.5-5.0 mPa and temperature of raw materials of 60-120°C with subsequent hydrothermal treatment at the temperature of 180-200°C for 5-90 sec with simultaneous fine grinding and abrasion. Process of fine grinding and water hydrolysis of keratin are carried out in thin layer up to 30 mm, then the second phase of high-temperature hydrolysis is carried out at the pressure of 5.0-15.0 mPa for 90-270 sec at the temperature of 180-250°C, and product of raw materials processing is discharged into zone of atmospheric pressure.

EFFECT: method to make fodder additive from feather and down raw materials makes it possible to reduce energy costs and to increase digestability of hydrolysed fodder flour from feathers up to 85%.
