SUBSTANCE: radio network controller is configured to function in unidirectional signalling mode as well as in a bidirectional signalling mode. In the unidirectional signalling mode, the radio network is configured to send radio resource control signals to a mobile station through a servicing cell. The radio network controller is configured to enter into bidirectional signalling mode during rigid relay handover. In the bidirectional mode, the radio network controller is configured to sent radio resource control messages to the mobile station through the current servicing cell, as well as through the assignment cell. The mobile station is configured to listen to the current servicing cell, as well as the assignment cell for radio resource control messages. However, user data are transmitted only from the servicing cell to the mobile station.
EFFECT: more reliable signalling between the base station and the mobile station.
