FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: locomotive includes engine (12), intercooler (16) and oil cooler (28), at that, each one has corresponding cooling channels made in them. Locomotive also includes cooling system (10) in selective interaction with corresponding cooling channels for selective supply of the first cooling liquid (56) and the second cooling liquid (52) at temperature which is higher than that of the first cooling liquid to cooling channels. Operating conditions of cooling system involves supply in the first mode of the first cooling liquid flow (26) to intercooler and the second cooling liquid flow (30) to oil cooler at the first temperature differing from temperature of the first cooling liquid flow to provide mainly the cooling of intercooler. Method also involves supply in the second mode of the first cooling liquid flow to intercooler and the second cooling liquid flow to oil cooler at the second temperature differing from temperature of the first cooling liquid flow to provide mainly the cooling of oil cooler.

EFFECT: invention provides limitation of temperatures of various engine components.
