FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: in operating method of internal combustion engine when volume of combustion chamber is enlarged, the supply of fuel and compressed air to combustion chamber is controlled with the closing moment of inlet shutoff element with further ignition of air-and-fuel mixture, thus changing the ratio of combustion chamber volume to working volume, which leads to interruption of suction stroke and its switching to working stroke. Compressed air is supplied to the engine from the receiver to which the air is pumped with compressor or from external source, where it is maintained above compression pressure through variator. Fuel is supplied through carburettor or an injector. In piston engine all the processes of the same cycle are performed in one combustion chamber per one turn of the engine shaft. In rotary engine the processes of two adjacent cycles are performed in two cavities of one combustion chamber per one turn of the engine shaft.
EFFECT: improving engine efficiency, enlarging the possibilities of control of the engine characteristics, and increasing its specific power.
