FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to adsorption removal of iodine. Proposed adsorbent comprises potassium iodide in amount of 5 to 70% by wt of total weight of adsorbent that features volume of pores with diametre of 1 mcm, or over 0.6 ml/g or more. Invention covers method of adsorbent production, as well as method of mercury removal by adsorption from liquid hydrocarbon or waste fume gases of thermal electric stations, or natural gas that contain mercury in various forms, e.g. elementary mercury, ionic mercury and organic mercury, and associated component that hinders mercury adsorption. Adsorbent fills adsorption column and hydrocarbon fluid is passed through the column. If hydrocarbon fluid contains water, then dewatering plant is installed ahead of adsorption column.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of mercury adsorption.
