FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: pressure sensor for measuring pressure of working liquid has a housing in which there is cavity, a diaphragm which can be deflected in the cavity, a primary electrode connected to the wall of the cavity in order to form a primary capacitor, a secondary electrode connected to the wall of the cavity in order to form a secondary capacitor and an electrical circuit which is connected to the primary capacitor and the secondary capacitor and designed to calculate pressure inside the pipeline carrying the working liquid as a function of change in the primary capacitor and in the second capacitor when the size of the cavity changes under first pressure of the working liquid. The method of determining pressure of the working liquid in the pipeline involves applying pressure of the working liquid onto the housing of the sensor in which there is a cavity in which there is a deflectable diaphragm and the primary and secondary electrodes. Pressure of the working liquid in the pipeline is calculated as a function of the change in the first primary capacitor and the secondary capacitor when the size of the cavity changes in response to pressure in the working liquid.
EFFECT: design of a pressure sensor which, in one measurement cycle, measures absolute as well as differential pressure in a wide range of differential pressure without using an extra pressure sensor and exerting external atmospheric pressure onto the working cavity of the sensor.
