SUBSTANCE: method is realised by a vehicle-mounted position-finding unit and a vehicle-external control unit which is connected to the former, where toll roads on the electronic image of road network are superimposed on detection zones (E), and the vehicle-mounted position-finding unit, when determining the vehicle position (PE) within the detection zone (E) based on position data (PE) within the detection zone (E), determines data for calculating the road toll and sends the said data to the control unit. On the electronic image of the road network there are additional monitoring zones (K) which are assigned to detection zones (E) and on their spatial extent, extend beyond their assigned detection zones (E), where if a vehicle is exclusively registered within the monitoring zone (K) and beyond the detection zone (E), the position-finding unit sends the control unit lying within the monitoring zone (K) data (Pk) on the position of these vehicle trips, and through the control unit, these data (Pk) on position are checked such that when the vehicle position is repeatedly determined exclusively within the monitoring zone (K) and beyond the detection zone (E), geometrical matching of the detection zone (E) on the electronic image of the road network is performed.
