FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of preparing ultrafine beta-sialon powder from natural aluminosilicate raw material. According to the disclosed method, aluminosilicate material (kaolin) undergoes preliminary thermal treatment, the mixture is prepared through dry milling of the thermally treated aluminisilicate material and soot, and the mixture then undergoes carbothermal reduction in a nitrogen medium by heating to temperature 1400-1420°C for 0.5-1 hour, and then holding at temperature 1400-1420°C for 4-8 hours. Preliminary thermal treatment of the aluminisilicate material is carried out at temperature 450-600°C for 25-30 minutes.
EFFECT: method provides output of the ready product with considerable content of the basic phase of 92-95 wt %.
