FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for electrochemical reduction of solutions containing hexavalent chromium, and can be used in tanning processes and in electroplating. Electrochemical reduction is carried out in an electrolysis cell without a separator, having an inlet opening for untreated solution which contains hexavalent chromium, and an outlet opening for the electrolysed solution depleted of chromium, capable of maintaining intense mass-transfer through the entire volume of the cell, and equipped with a stainless steel cathode and an anode which is suitable for releasing oxygen, where the said anode is a titanium anode with a catalytic coating for releasing oxygen, capable of functioning at potential lower than 1.7 V/SHE.
EFFECT: use of an electrolysis cell with a simple design.
