FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of cathode activation in electrolytic cell to obtain alkali metal chlorate. Method includes stage, at which performed is electrolysis of electrolyte, which contains alkali metal chloride, in electrolytic cell, in which at least one anode and at least one cathode are placed. A) said electrolyte contains chrome in any form in amount varying from approximately 0.01·10-6 to approximately 100·10-6 mol/dm3; b) said electrolyte contains molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, manganese and/or their mixtures in any form in the total amount, varying from approximately 0.1·10-6 to approximately 0.1·10-3 mol/dm3. Invention also relates to method of obtaining alkali metal chlorate.
EFFECT: application of claimed method makes it possible to reduce voltage on cell terminals.
