FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a glass melting furnace and a method of melting glass. The glass melting furnace has a bath and a topside with a dome, and has total inner length Lg. The bath of the furnace includes a zone for heating the mixture only inside the furnace, having at least one outlet opening for exhaust gases which is linked to the atmosphere without an intermediate heat exchanger, combustion space with burners which stretches on the entire width of the bath, a bottom elevation, a homogenisation zone, a bottom passage and a channel for raising glass mass. The burners have a source of fossil fuels and a source of oxidative gas which is rich in oxygen, content of which is at least 85 vol. %.There is at least one row of bubblers in the combustion space in front of the bottom elevation. Between the heating zone and the combustion space there is one radiating wall with the bottom edge over the mixture, through which the length Lv of the heating zone is bounded by 15-35% of the total inner length Lg, and the length Lf of the combustion space is increased by 65-85% of the total inner length Lg.
EFFECT: low consumption of combustion gas and heat loss.
