FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry, particularly, to reduction of water amount in reactor exhaust gas in production of terephthalic acid by oxidising xylene in acetic acid solution. Proposed method comprises feeding exhaust gas L2 into bottom inlet of primary absorption column 110, feeding p-xylene via lines L4, L10 to top inlet of aforesaid column to extract acetic acid via bottom outlet of said column, and discharging water contained in exhaust gas together with p-xylene L5 via said column top outlet along with condensing water and p-xylene by condenser 120, separating water from p-xylene by organic-water separator 140 and discharging water L7 as effluent. Mix of acetic acid, p-xylene and water discharged via bottom outlet of column 110 and line L8 is returned into reactor to produce terephthalic acid. p-xylene, or p-xylene with some water separated by separator 140, is again fed into PA column via line L4 while gas L8 escaping from separator 140, is directed into secondary absorption column 150.
EFFECT: reduced power consumption, possibility to use mix from primary absorption column for p-xylene oxidation without special separation appliances.
