FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used at aluminothermal welding of rails by intermediate moulding, for example, at conversion of existing track to long-welded track. Two semi-dies with moulding bridge at top part make the welding cavity for accommodation of the rail ends to be filled with fused metal. At least one semi-mould has at least one side channel communicating the space above moulding bridge with welding chamber bottom part, at least one mid channel communicating said side channel with mid part of welding cavity in the area of rail heads and at least one top channel communicating side channel with top part of welding cavity above rail heads. At least one of said semi-moulds has expanded mid and top parts to make inner welding cavity in width making at least the rail head rolling surface defect length.

EFFECT: simultaneous welding and repair of rolling surface at rail joints without removal of rails from the track.
