FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: device for detecting detonation for an internal combustion engine has a unit for recording the waveform of the internal combustion engine and a detonation detecting unit. The detonation detecting unit has band-pass filters, an integration unit and a synthesising unit. The synthesising unit measures weight coefficients corresponding to frequency bands such that in the frequency bands, the weight coefficient of the waveform intensity in the frequency band of the first tangential mode becomes less than the weight coefficient of waveform intensities in other frequency bands, and in the frequency band of the third tangential mode becomes greater than the weight coefficient waveform intensities in other frequency bands, and synthesises the waveform of a predetermined interval of the crankshaft angle based on integrated values and weight coefficients of intensities. The detonation detecting unit determines whether there has been detonation in the internal combustion engine. The method of detecting detonation for the internal combustion engine comprises steps on which: the waveform of the internal combustion engine is recorded, waveforms are extracted in predetermined frequency bands, weight coefficients for intensities of the extracted waveforms of multiple bands are changed such that the effect of noise different from detonation is reduced, the waveform of the predetermined interval of the crankshaft range is recorded and it is determined whether detonation has occurred in the internal combustion engine using the recorded waveform. Frequency band waveforms include a frequency band waveform of the first and third tangential modes. During the measurement step, the weight coefficient is changed such that the weight coefficient of the waveform intensity in the frequency band of the first tangential mode becomes less than the weight coefficient of waveform intensities in other frequency bands, and in the frequency band of the third tangential mode becomes greater than the weight coefficient of waveform intensities in other frequency bands.

EFFECT: design of a device and a method of detecting detonation in internal combustion engines, which can reduce false detection of detonation.
