FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalytic chemistry, specifically to preparation of a catalyst with platinum nanoparticles on a carbon support, used in electrochemical cells, particularly solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells. The method of producing the catalyst employs platinum electrodes in solutions of alkali metal hydroxides with concentration of 2-6 mol per litre under the effect of alternating current with frequency of 50 Hz and average current per unit surface area of the electrodes of 0.3-1.5 A/cm.
EFFECT: obtaining a platinum catalyst on a carbon support with platinum particle size of 5-80 nm without using toxic substances and heating to high temperatures.
