FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method for production of a catalyst with platinum nanoparticles includes platinum electrodeposition on a carbon carrier as a suspension with addition of hexachloroplatinic acid concentration of 10-250 g/dm3 in a two-electrode cell with a separated anode and cathode space. The anode is made of an inert material. Under the action of direct electric current assocoiated with the unit area of the cathode surface and equal to 4-10 A/cm2, while stirring the carbon suspension in the catholyte using a magnetic stirrer, platinum electrodeposition on the carbon carrier takes place.

EFFECT: preparation of a catalyst with platinum nanocrystals (with size less than 5 nm) fixed on the carbon carrier, with a total electrochemically active platinum nanoparticles surface area of more than 30 Pt at a uniform distribution of platinum nanoparticles on the carbon carrier surface.
