FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry and hydrometallurgy and can be used in production of alumina from nephelines and low-grade bauxites using a sintering technique. Aluminate solutions are carbonised with CO2-containing gases in the presence of an aluminium hydroxide inoculant. Aluminium hydroxide formed during the carbonisation process is separated from the liquid phase and then processed into alumina. Treatment of the aluminate solution with the CO2-containing gas begins before adding the inoculant upon achieving caustic modulus of 1.15-1.55 units in the solution.
EFFECT: high quality of aluminium hydroxide due to low content of fine fractions (45 mcm).
