SUBSTANCE: morphometric characteristics of macrophages produced in an induced sputum are evaluated by calculating an average cell area. If the value is 225±81 mcm2, the presence of this pathology in a smoker is predicted. The use of the method allows early diagnosing of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease before observing the manifested clinical symptomatology presented by ventilation disturbances.
EFFECT: enabled well-timed prescription of the therapy and delayed progression of the disease.
