FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method for quantitative measurement of concentration of a chemical compound contained in a sample solution using a sensor film involves the following: hydrogel sensor film is prepared, having a chemical composition comprising an indicator which changes its optical properties upon being exposed to the chemical compound in the sample solution; the film is exposed to a fixed amount of the sample solution; absorption of the film is measured at wavelength close to the maximum of the absorption peak (λmax) of the indicator using optical scanning equipment; and concentration of the chemical compound in the sample solution is quantitatively determined using the average absorption measured using the sensor film. The invention also discloses a method for quantitative measurement of concentration of a chemical compound contained in a sample solution using multiple sensor films; standalone sensors for use in said methods and a sensor for determining concentration of a chemical compound in a sample in trace concentrations.
