FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in metallurgical industry. Silicon metal is obtained by reducing silicon dioxide with an alkali-earth metal carbonate in the presence of cerium oxide with the following ratio of components in wt %: silicon oxide 17-18; alkali-earth metal carbonate 13-14; cerium oxide - the rest to 100.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain silicon with output of up to 98 wt %.
