FIELD: roentgenology, as X-ray contrast material; production of luminophors, active medium for lasers and pigments. SUBSTANCE: material comprises at least one oxide M2O3 which is chosen of oxides of trivalent elements (where M is Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Y, La, Bi, In, Rh, Sb, Ga), 50-55; Ta2O5 or Ta2O5 and Nb2O5, the balance. Mixture of oxides of suitable trivalent elements is homogenized and calcined at 1000-1300 C, temperature being gradually increased by 50 C and allowed to stand within 8-10 h at each step of raising temperature. Before each step of raising temperature mixture is affected by homogenization. EFFECT: improved quality of desired product. 3 cl, 1 tbl
