FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: crystals are grown on a substrate via deposition from an electrolyte. A disclination type defect is formed on the substrate in form of a pentagonal section hole or microcrack. Flat pentagonal crystals, films or coatings or crystal joints are used as defects. Several needle-like crystals in form of whiskers are simultaneously grown by forming several disclination type defects. The grown needle-like crystals undergo electropolishing thereby forming pointed ends. The substrate used can be a device component on which the needle-like crystal is to be mounted.
EFFECT: reduced labour input when growing needle-like crystals, fewer operations and possibility of growing crystals in the required place and having the required dimensions, high reliability of the equipment in which the needle-like crystals are used.
