FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ICE, namely to arrangement of ignition source in separate-cycle expansion cylinder. ICE comprises crankshaft 52, cylinder head 70, compression and expansion cylinders 66 and 68, respectively, compression piston 72 and expansion piston 74, bypass channel 78 and ignition source 104.Compression piston 72 reciprocates to intake and compress in revolution of crankshaft 52. Expansion piston 74 reciprocates to expand and discharge in revolution of crankshaft 52. Bypass channel 78 communicates said compression and expansion cylinders. Bypass channel incorporates bypass valve 84 and expansion bypass valve 86 with high-pressure chamber arranged there between. Central section 106 of ignition source 104 is located at a distance from closest peripheral edge 110 of expansion bypass valve passage 98 that equals or exceeds safe distance S. Said safe distance S prevents ingress of burning gas into said passage 98 unless it is shut off for, at least, portion of ICE operating rpm. Said safe distance S is defined by expression: S [mm] = combustion rate [mm/degree of crankshaft turn] x crankshaft turn angle between ignition and expansion bypass valve closure [degrees].
EFFECT: longer life of expansion valve, optimum relation between complete combustion and detonation prevention.
