FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves preparation of a suspension of corn starch, preparation of a mixture of solutions of (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl)trimethylammonium chloride and sodium hydroxide, adding a starch suspension to said mixture, holding the reaction mixture while stirring and heating, neutralisation, filtration, washing and drying the ready product, where the solutions of (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl)trimethylammonium chloride and sodium hydroxide are mixed in molar ratio 1:1. Said mixture is held for 5 minutes at 20-25°C and the starch suspension is added. Further, additional sodium hydroxide is added to the reaction mixture in amount of 70% of previously added, and the aqueous reaction mixture of starch, (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl)trimethylammonium chloride and sodium hydroxide is stirred at temperature not higher than 50°C for 8 hours.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain cationic starch which is not contaminated with foreign components, low consumption of reagents and shorter duration of the process, high technological efficiency of producing cationic corn starch.
