SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to solve the problem of suppressing the side lobes of the directional pattern of linear phased antenna arrays by changing only the excitation phase of elements of the phased antenna arrays. The disclosed method of suppressing side lobes of the directional pattern of a linear phased antenna array involves estimating the level of the initial directional pattern of the phased antenna array and selecting in the aperture two M-element sub-arrays lying on the edges of the initial. Phase adjustments ±Δφ are made with a minus sign for radiators of a sub-array lying on one edge of the aperture and with a plus sign on the other edge of the aperture. Values of the phase adjustments ±Δφ for all elements on the sub-arrays are selected equal on the absolute value and based on the condition for the given value of suppression and the width of the angular sector for suppressing side lobes.

EFFECT: suppressing side lobes of the directional pattern of a phased antenna array in a wide angular sector.
