FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the refractory industry and specifically to methods of preparing electrical periclase powder for electrical insulation during production of tubular electric heaters. Electrical periclase powder and a carbonaceous additive divided by a partition are loaded into a reaction volume with a gas impermeable roof and reaction firing is carried out at 1200-1400°C, during which water vapour is blown through the carbonaceous additive.
EFFECT: low content of iron oxide in the periclase powder when using low-speed starting material, thus changing the periclase to a higher grade.
