FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: mechanically coupled asynchronous motors are connected to one-type frequency converters with a common DC link. Further, the converters are used to start the motors smoothly to tested rotation frequency, and in such mode, supply voltage frequency is reduced in a circuit of one of the motor by 2-4 Hz, and the DC link is connected with an active load of short duration 1.5-2 s representing a resistor network enabling providing energy dissipation within 20-25 % of rating power of the motor, providing thereby stability of a self-excitation system, and as a consequence this motor goes into a generator mode which through the DC link circuit transfers energy to the coupled motor.

EFFECT: enabled back-to-back test of the asynchronous motors in various rotor speeds.
