SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a recording device which has a buffer which stores raster data which include multi-value data, a table in which for one value of the multi-value data, a plurality of dot patterns is defined and a dot pattern corresponding to that value is present, a first information storage unit which stores the initial value of the dot pattern, a second information storage unit which stores information which indicates empty raster, an evaluator which evaluates said value of multi-value data and determines whether the raster is empty, a raster control unit which performs control in order to store information in the first and second information storage units and control in order to store multi-value data in the buffer, and a generation unit configured to read multi-value data from the buffer based on the initial value stored by the first information storage unit and the table and generate a dot pattern based on the read multi-value data.
