FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: lithium secondary battery contains: a positive electrode layer which consists of a positive electrode-active material; a negative electrode layer which consists of a negative electrode-active material; a separator located between the positive electrode layer and the negative electrode layer; and an electrolyte solution having decomposition potential Ve of the electrolyte impregnating at least the separator; in which the positive electrode-active material is amorphous, and the positive electrode-active material is presented by general expression LixFeMyOz, in the specified expression x and y are values which independently satisfy 1 < x ≤ 2.5 and 0 < y ≤ 3 respectively, and z = (x + (Fe valency) + (M valency) × y) / 2 to satisfy stoichiometry, M represents one or two or more types of a glass-forming element. Average electronegativity of M is less than (Ve + 6.74) / 5.41. The battery is charged to 4.5 V.
EFFECT: better charge and discharge characteristics.
