FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: flow measuring device has a measuring element around which fluid flows, with at least one light guide and at least two electric heating elements lying adjacent to at least one light guide. At least one light guide can be loaded with heat from a heat current directed from the corresponding heating element to at least one light guide, where the direction of the heat currents is at least partly opposite. Depending on the direction of flow of the fluid, inputs of separate heat currents are affected differently. Also, the electromagnetic wave branching into at least one light guide is affected by temperature of at least one light guide. The flow measuring device has a control unit through which at least electrical power can be supplied to at least both heating elements (5a, 5b), and an evaluation unit through which the temperature effect from separate heat currents on the electromagnetic wave can be evaluated and the direction of flow of the fluid can be determined.
EFFECT: possibility of determining direction of flow of a fluid and controlling the direction of flow of cooling fluid.
