FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing tetrachloroethylene by reacting tetrachloromethane and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst containing platinum, dispersed on the surface of a support containing aluminium oxide. The support used is aluminium oxide with specific surface area of not less than 200 m2/g, and the catalyst is prepared by saturating the support with potassium hexachloroplateate, followed by drying in a current of nitrogen and reduction in a current of hydrogen. The process of obtaining tetrachloroethylene is carried out at temperature 80-200°C, molar ratio of hydrogen to tetrachloromethane equal to 5-15 and contact time of 3-10 s.
EFFECT: high selectivity of the method of producing tetrachloroethylene and simplification of the process owing to simplification of the method of preparing the tetrachloromethane conversion catalyst.
