SUBSTANCE: in applications for local playback of files or in applications for single-address stream delivery with selection of an independently decoded track for a specific type of multimedia data, information on groups of alternative tracks is found first using a block of track interconnections and for the given type of multimedia data, one track is selected from the group of alternative tracks. If there is need to switch the stream, information on the group of the switched tracks is then found using the block of track interconnections. In multi-address applications with scalable streams or MDC streams, tracks in multilevel groups or MDC groups of tracks are found using the block of track interconnections and selected from all multilevel groups or MDC groups.
EFFECT: method of indicating information on multilevel groups of tracks and information on groups of tracks with multiple description coding, along with a mechanism for efficient indication of information on interconnections of tracks.
