FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry and can be used in producing hydrogen through electrolysis. The electrolyte used is tap water. The anode used is a copper plate and the cathode used is duraluminium alloy D16. The alloy is activated for 20 minutes with voltage across the electrolysis cell of 30-110 V and current density 4 mA/cm2. Current is then switched off for 5-10 minutes, after which activation during each subsequent cycle is carried out for 1-10 minutes.
EFFECT: invention enables to reduce power consumption and improve the environment.
