FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method is implemented in reduction reactor including reduction zone and lower discharge zone. The specified particles containing iron oxides interact with flow of high-temperature reducing gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide in reduction zone in which reducing particles (DRI) flow from reduction zone through lower discharge zone. Method involves introduction of methane-containing process gas and its circulation through lower zone, including DRI contained in it. The portion of gas flowing in lower zone is removed from reactor; the first portion of gas taken from lower zone is supplied externally from reactor to the flow of partially regenerated original reducing gas that is returned to reduction zone. Combined gases are supplied to reactor reduction zone and flow of methane-containing process gas is controlled so that it can be more than flow of the transmitted part of waste gas approximately by 50 nm3 - 300 nm3 per ton of DRI obtained in reduction reactor.
EFFECT: more effective use of gas of coke ovens at reduction of iron ores to DRI in reduction reactor.
