FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention comprises replacing the reformer with an alternative component using which it is possible to convert the coke oven gas into a reducing gas/synthesis gas suitable for direct reduction with minimal treatment or purification. Hydrocarbons are converted to H2 and CO. S does not affect the conversion to synthesis gas, but is removed or otherwise cleared up by means of an iron layer in the shaft furnace for direct reduction.
EFFECT: efficient use of gas.
