SUBSTANCE: methods for determining the current position of a mobile device and apparatus for supporting positioning are disclosed. Network information and historic location information is transmitted from the mobile device to the network. Network information identifies a radio access network transmitting signals received by the mobile device. Approximate location information defined based on historic location information is received from the network. The current location of the mobile device is determined through the mobile device based on historic location information as the initial position.
