FIELD: transport.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to railway transport and may be used in diesel locomotive design. Proposed diesel locomotive comprises frame, suspension, running gear, body, traction generator, traction motors, two-machine assembly, controller, compressor and control mechanisms. Power plant consists of identical units made up of rotary piston engine comprising horizontal cylinder with foundation frame closed by front and rear covers with inlet and outlet vent openings. Z-like rotor with triangular ledges is fitted into said cylinder, ledge apices being directed opposite the rotor rotation direction. Segmented pistons are fitted on both sides of the rotor. Rotor, pistons and cylinder inner surface make two combustion chambers provided with injectors communicated with fuel system. Shafts of all power units are interconnected. Flywheel; and drive gears are fitted thereon to engage with driven gears of auxiliary assembly units and parts. Starter is fitted on one of the power unit housings with its gear engaged with flywheel rim.
EFFECT: higher power output and efficiency, simplified design.
