FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to deep oxidation of methane and can be used in catalytic heat sources working on natural gas and in exhaust gas neutralisers. The method for deep oxidation of methane using a platinum-containing catalyst involves conversion of the catalyst into activated state first; while mixing the initial reaction mixture with oxygen, the concentration ratio O2:CH4 must be less than 1; and when there is a sharp increase in conversion of methane, which indicates the conversion of the catalyst into activated state, concentration of oxygen in the initial reaction mixture is increased to O2:CH4≤2 in order to achieve complete conversion of methane.
EFFECT: sharp increase in methane conversion.
