FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 1,1,3-triphenylindene from phenyl acetylene and a triphenyl methane derivative, characterised by that the triphenyl methane derivative used is triphenyl methanol in the presence of catalytic amounts of a Lewis acid in the medium of an organic solvent, which enables separation of the formed water in form of an azeotropic mixture.
EFFECT: safe and simple method of producing 1,1,3-triphenylindene owing to use cheaper and readily available reagents.
