FIELD: ammunition.

SUBSTANCE: method consists in the creation of an auxiliary ammunition nutation and precession angles by mechanical stimulation of ammunition after it has left the thrower barrel. Auxiliary ammunition nutation and precession angles are altered by changing the reaction force intensity at its mechanical stimulation of ammunition. The ammunition velocity is measured at the moment of its collision with a barrier. The estimated penetration velocities M(Vpen) and the non-penetration velocities M(Vn) are calculated with reference to the barrier. The ammunition penetrating performance is calculated according to the formula V0.5= M(Vn) ∙ (1-Nn/N) + M(Vpen) ∙ (1-Npen/N). The obtained factor is compared with the preset one and the ammunition penetrating performance is decided. The apparatus is additionally equipped with an ammunition velocity measurement device, a unit for creating auxiliary nutation and precession angles after it has left the thrower barrel executed as a set of interchangeable plates of different thickness, each of them being installed behind the thrower barrel finishing, across its center, at the distance of the thrower barrel finishing to the front surface of an interchangeable plate equal or exceeding the ammunition length, with a depression in the covering working area of the interchangeable plate with reference to the thrower barrel finishing.

EFFECT: enhanced precision of ammunition penetrating performance assessment due to a more precise initial data description.
