SUBSTANCE: system has a light source for emitting light, which is modulated by video and/or audio content of a display (40), and a light guide (20). The longitudinal light guide transmits light emitted by the light source along a longitudinal axis (26) and projects light passing through the longitudinal light guide onto a projection surface (50). The longitudinal light guide has a light input window and a plurality of light output elements. The plurality of light output elements projects light onto the projection surface through light output elements having a subset (70a, 70d) of light output elements which are designed to illuminate a defined region (50a, 50d) of the projection surface (50). Intensity of light emitted by the defined subset depends on the distance (d_a, d_d) along a straight line between the defined subset and the defined region and/or on the angle between the straight line and the normal to the projection surface.

EFFECT: increase in uniformity of illumination of the projection surface.
