FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of decontaminating water and can be used in purifying household and industrial wastes. Water to be decontaminated is passed between two electrodes across which voltage is applied. One of the electrodes at positive potential is constantly rotated in the vertical plane about its axis of symmetry which is perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the electrode. Water in the housing is kept at such a level that part of the surface Se of the rotating electrode lies in the range 0.5 Sp≥Se≥0.4Sp, where Sp is the total surface area of the electrode which is constantly submerged in water. The part of the rotating electrode which is not submerged in water is exposed to UV radiation. The method is realised in a device having a vessel which houses an electrode, made in form of two coaxial cylindrical rings of different diameter which are rigidly joined to each other by radial spokes. The sector between the spokes and rings is in form of a net. Radial flat blades are placed equidistant from each other on the outer circle of the coaxial ring of the electrode with the larger diameter. The device also has a shaft, a bearing, gaskets, an inductive contactless switch, a frequency-to-voltage converter, a voltage adder, a dc amplifier, a contact unit and one or more UV highlighters. The diameter of the inner opening of the outlet nozzle Dout and the diameter of the opening of the input nozzle Din satisfy the inequality Dout ≥ Din.

EFFECT: high efficiency of decontaminating water.
