FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: energy distribution of neutron flux is measured by measuring kinetic energy of recoil protons which are elastically scattered by small angles as a result (n, p) of interaction in a gaseous hydrogen-containing medium. To achieve the required collimation, the principle of picking up signals from an anode filament and from two extra electrodes (tubes) is employed, with subsequent recording of a multi-dimensional amplitude spectrum in a computer. Neutron energy is determined after sorting the multi-dimensional information. The proton target used is a layer of gas in a first tube, the thickness and position of which is arbitrarily selected using a processing program; the second tube serves as a recoil proton collimator, and selection of the minimum angle of the collimator is carried out during information processing in the computer.

EFFECT: high accuracy of determination and wider dynamic range when measuring energy of fast neutrons.
